Every community has some set of guidelines. In this group, a set of rules was made by previously mentioned Jay and was approved by other admins and moderators, so that content posted was enjoyable for all members. Jay actually got his position as moderator for being a consistent reporter to previous admins of all inappropriate content. He was asked to help keep the group free of unnecessary content that did not relate to the main topic of the community. When asked about his duties as moderator, Jay responded that “there was a short period right after I became an admin that people were constantly making political posts.” That is when Jay proposed the idea of having a clear set of rules, which helped the political posts “die off real quick!”
There are five rules which if found violated result in automatic removal from the group and being blocked from joining again. Those rules include: no spamming or sales, no political posts, no blocking admins or moderators, no bashing on the Cubs, and no asking for personal information of other members. The last rule is to respect the opinion of others, which is crucial to mention as when it comes to sports there can be some pretty heated debates. These rules are beneficial for members as they help insure that all content posted will be content that they joined the group for. All content posted should be Cubs relevant as “with social networking sites, users can individually choose which content to pursue, ignoring that which they perceive to not be relevant.” (1) It is important that admins and moderators help ensure that the content posted on the page is the content that the audience joined for in the first place. |
