Hi there! I am so glad that you have found your way to my little corner of the internet. Here is a bit about me:
My name is Margaret Martin and I was born and raised in a northern suburb of Chicago. I come from an Irish Catholic family that tends to treat St. Patrick's Day with the same amount of celebration as Christmas. Growing up, I spent a lot of time playing outside, from the time I got out of school until it was dark outside. This led to my enjoyment of going to the beach, taking bike rides, or spending a day walking around the city. In my early years, I spent most of my time finding an activity I enjoyed. My parents enrolled me in swimming, ice-skating, soccer, volleyball and four dance classes. Little did any of us know, I would not stay in any of these activities for long...
Cheerleading was the sport that stuck. I was introduce to the sport during my middle school years- a time that I can simply describe as uncomfortable. In the sixth grade, I joined a competitive team and completely fell in love. I continued cheering throughout all of my high school years and lead the team as captain during my senior year. I loved showing school spirit, cheering the football team on to state, and competing with my teammates. Cheer has helped me gain the confidence in who I am today and understand the skills it takes to lead a group of people. The picture above is of me laughing as I hold up the "L" sign to spell out my school's name. I love this picture because it represents all the "L's" I've taken, how cheer has helped me through them, and how sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and move on.
After high school, I decided to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. I am currently a freshman majoring in psychology and minoring in geography. I chose TCU mainly because of the incredible school spirit. So far, I have gotten involved in a greek organization on campus, made some great friends, and attended many exciting sporting events. During the rest of my time at TCU, I plan on studying abroad in Europe and joining at least two more activities on campus. In the future, I hope to participate in research opportunities and attend graduate school to one day become a professor. I am so happy to be a horned frog, but there are just some things I miss from home.
Besides the Chicago restaurants and not being laughed at for my accent, the thing I miss most about home is my family. The picture above was taken of all of us getting ready to zip line during a recent trip to the Dominican Republic. Traveling is our favorite things to do together and something I look forward to. Thank God for FaceTime so that my mom's encouragement, dad's advice, and brother's jokes are only a call away.
If you are stumbling across this page and wondering why I have created it, it is mainly to display the knowledge I have gained through taking English 10803 at TCU. My specific class focuses on writing online and the techniques that go along with doing so. My classmates and I were first instructed to write about ourselves and slowly move to discussing broader communities throughout the semester. As you continue to look through my page, you can observe my writings on communities that I felt passionate to describe. I hope that you enjoy learning more as you continue! -Margaret
